What is Ox-Ki-Si, who sits on the BÜHNE FREI jury and how many sharps does F sharp major have?

General information about the competition

I am interested in the BÜHNE FREI competition but not sure whether to enter.

Under our pre-registration you can receive information about the competition without any obligation and always stay up to date.

What are the prices at BÜHNE FREI?

At BÜHNE FREI, the best three works are rewarded with prize money. The first prize includes a premiere at the Landesakademie and the possibility of publishing by Carus-Verlag as well as prize money of €4,000. The second prize is endowed with 2,500 € and the third prize with 1,000 €. There is also a special prize with prize money of € 2,000 for the best libretto.

All prize money is awarded per work and must therefore be divided among all authors.

Who is on the BÜHNE FREI jury?

In order to exclude any possible advantage before and during the competition, the names of the jury members will not be published.

Each year, the jury is composed of one voting member from the Ministry of Culture, one from the State Academy and one specialist from the fields of directing/dramaturgy, composition, children's choir direction, publishing and the German Choral Association. The non-voting director of the State Academy chairs the proceedings.

Who is organising the composition competition BÜHNE FREI?

BÜHNE FREI is the composition competition for children and young people organised by the Landesmusikakademie Ochsenhausen on behalf of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture.

What is Ox-Ki-Si?

Ox-Ki-Si is an abbreviation and stands for the Ochsenhausen Children's Singing Week. Ox-Ki-Si is also the future stage for the composition competition BÜHNE FREI, because the respective winning work will be premiered during the week-long children's and youth camp

General information about the work and the prerequisites

I would like to enter my work in the competition, but there is only the option to upload a single PDF. Can I submit the libretto and the sheet music separately?

Meanwhile it is possible to enter several music sheets and text files. Enclosed mp3 or mp4 files are not obligatory.

I have a finished libretto, but I'm missing the composition. Can I also register only a part at BÜHNE FREI?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. Only works that are ready to play are admitted to the competition.

My work is aimed more at children (between 6 and 12 years) - can I still submit it?

The target group of the composition competition BÜHNE FREI changes annually. In the first year, the focus is on children between the ages of 6 and 12; in the second year, the competition is aimed at young people between the ages of 9 and 15.

My work is aimed more at young people (between 9 and 15 years old) - can I still submit it?

The target group of the composition competition BÜHNE FREI changes annually. While in the first year the focus is on children between the ages of 6 and 12, in the second year the competition is aimed at young people between the ages of 9 and 15.

I am planning a larger instrumental instrumentation in my composition. Is that possible?

The instruments accompanying the children and/or young people are specified in the requirements for the work. Generally, a line-up of one piano and 1-2 other melody instruments plus any rhythm section is preferred.

Ich habe Melodie und Text im Kopf - in welcher Form müssen Noten und Texte abgegeben werden?

Einzureichen ist eine Partitur, die sämtliche Song-und Dialog-Texte beinhaltet.

I would like to enter a work, I have allready entered for BÜHNE FREI in the past. Is this possible?

It is possible if your work did not receive a prize. You can find this information in our conditions of participation.

The team at BÜHNE FREI organises two webinars during the course of each competition in which open questions can be clarified live. The dates can be found on the homepage of the website. Is there a possibility to be present at the concert or rehearsals?

Of course! We are very happy about a personal contact. Please get in touch with us so that we can reserve a place for the concert and get in touch with you on site.

If your piece is the prize-winning piece, we would like to perform your music as authentically as possible and are therefore happy to integrate you into the rehearsal process.
